Protect your brand worldwide with Bonamark.
A Mexico trademark search checks whether an earlier right may conflict with the brand you plan to file. It should cover more than an exact-name match.
Bonamark can review the search results before you decide whether to file. Send the exact mark and explain what it will identify. Include a logo if it is part of the proposed application.
Search the IMPI Register
IMPI provides MARCia for trademark searches. Its official guidance describes a free search option. Use the trademark search tool rather than the general search box on a government website.
Check the actual records, not just the number of matches. A result becomes meaningful when you identify the mark, applicant or owner, goods or services and available status information. Save application or registration numbers for follow-up.
Build a Search Around Your Mexican Brand
Supply the Spanish wording used on your products as well as any original-language brand. Translation, pronunciation and the distinctive part of a longer name can all be useful questions for the reviewer. Do not assume that an English spelling check answers every question about a Spanish launch.
- List the products and services as customers will encounter them in Mexico.
- Include spacing changes, shortened versions or alternative spellings that matter to the proposed name.
- Supply the logo separately if design protection is part of the project.
- Identify any marketplace seller or distributor using a similar name that has already concerned you.

Free Screening or a Detailed Study?
| Your decision | Useful scope |
|---|---|
| Shortlisting names | A preliminary check for obvious obstacles. |
| Preparing to file | A study of potentially relevant marks and the proposed goods or services. |
| A close result has appeared | A focused review of the record, status and commercial overlap. |
Bonamark’s free preliminary search and a professional study serve different stages. Ask for the scope and price of the Mexico study before ordering. Database access being free does not mean that professional interpretation or additional record work is included without charge.
What to Do with Similar or Expired Results
A similar result is a reason to investigate, not automatically to abandon a brand. The relevant products, wording, territory and current record all matter. Conversely, a record shown as expired or abandoned is not an invitation to adopt the name without considering the wider circumstances.
Ask the reviewer to explain which result creates a concern and what would resolve it. A written assessment should explain the concern and the practical options. It may support filing, further review, or selection of a different mark.
Search Is Different from Registration
A search does not reserve the name or replace IMPI examination. Mexico has a statutory opposition procedure, and a favorable search cannot exclude every future objection. Once you have a filing strategy, use our Mexico trademark registration service.
The Mexico registration guide explains the application stages and the declaration of use after registration. Planning those obligations early is part of deciding whether the brand is ready for the market.
Prepare a Useful Search Request
Send one brief with the exact mark, any image, your current and planned products, and whether Mexico is the only target country. Include the date of any previous search. If a product launch or distributor meeting is approaching, mention it so the team can confirm a realistic delivery time and the information required.
Mexico Trademark Search FAQ
Where can I search Mexican trademarks?
Use IMPI’s MARCia trademark search. Review the details of relevant records rather than relying only on exact-name matches.
Is the IMPI search free?
IMPI describes MARCia as a free search option. Bonamark’s detailed professional study is a separate service with its own agreed scope and fee.
Should I search the Spanish version of my brand?
Tell the reviewer which language versions you plan to use. Relevant wording and pronunciation should form part of the search strategy.
Does a clear result guarantee registration?
No. Search findings are limited by scope and available records. IMPI examination and possible opposition remain separate stages.
