A UAE trademark search checks whether an earlier right may conflict with the brand you plan to file. The review should use the exact mark and the products or services it will identify.
Choose the Right Search for Your Decision
A first check can help you shortlist names. A more detailed study is useful when you are about to spend money on a launch or application. Be clear about which question you need answered before ordering.
| Option | Best used for | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Free preliminary search | An initial screen of a proposed brand | Scope and limitations of the basic result |
| Detailed UAE trademark study | A decision about filing or launching | Classes, name variants, logo review, sources and professional assessment included in the quote |
| Official Ministry inquiry | Obtaining national trademark inquiry results | Search terms, class coverage and any additional records needed |
Bonamark’s trademark search service explains the difference between preliminary screening and an extensive study. The agreed UAE scope determines what is reviewed; do not assume that every option includes the same work.
Where to Search the UAE Trademark Register
The Ministry’s trademark inquiry service lists an official charge of AED 350. Its service card describes online submission and immediate inquiry results. That describes the Ministry service, not the delivery time for a professional clearance report.
The WIPO Global Brand Database can help with an international review. Check which collections are included and supplement them with the relevant national sources. A missing result in one database is not proof that the brand is available.
Why the Exact Name Is Only the Starting Point
Small differences in spelling are not a reliable way to avoid a conflict. Discuss the name as customers will see and say it: its main word, shortened versions, spacing and any language adaptations.
A March 2026 AIPPI UAE practice circular describes official searches as class-specific and explains that English queries do not automatically retrieve Arabic equivalents or phonetic variants. It also notes limitations in the detail returned, including logo and goods or services information. A useful review may therefore need additional records.
Before a study, prepare a short brief:
- The exact English wording and any Arabic version planned for packaging or advertising.
- The current logo, if the application may include a design.
- A practical description of what you sell, rather than only a broad industry label.
- Any earlier search results, application numbers or specific competitor marks you want reviewed.

How to Use the Results
The result should help you make a business decision. Ask which records deserve attention, what information is missing and what the reviewer recommends next.
- No obvious obstacle identified: discuss the remaining limitations and the next filing steps.
- A potentially relevant mark appears: review its goods or services, territory and status before deciding.
- The available details are incomplete: obtain further information before treating the result as clearance.
- A significant conflict is identified: consider another name or a revised strategy before investing further.
A search does not reserve a name. If you decide to proceed, the next stage is trademark registration in the UAE. For the full sequence, read our guide to registering a trademark in the UAE.
Dubai Trademark Search and Trade-Name Checks
If your launch is in Dubai, describe the target territory as the United Arab Emirates when requesting national trademark clearance. A company name, domain or social-media handle being available does not establish that the brand is clear as a trademark.
For example, a retailer may have a business name and still need to assess the separate product brand printed on its goods. Include both the products and the retail activity in your brief so the reviewer can identify the relevant scope.
Search Cost and Timing
Request a written quote for the UAE study before ordering. It should identify the marks and classes, what professional work is included, whether an official inquiry is included, and any additional charge for retrieving records. An official inquiry fee should not be presented as the total professional search price.
Share any launch deadline at the outset. The time needed depends on the agreed scope and whether the first results require follow-up. A rushed exact-name check may leave questions that matter before filing.
UAE Trademark Search FAQ
Where can I check a trademark in the UAE?
Use the Ministry of Economy and Tourism trademark inquiry service for the national register. International databases can support the review, but their coverage should be checked before relying on the results.
Is a UAE trademark search free?
Bonamark offers a free preliminary search. A detailed UAE study is a separate service quoted for the requested scope. The Ministry lists AED 350 for its official trademark inquiry; this is a government charge, not Bonamark’s professional fee.
Should I search an English name and its Arabic version?
Include the wording you actually plan to use and discuss relevant Arabic spellings with the reviewer. A search for an English word should not be assumed to cover every Arabic equivalent.
Does a clear search guarantee registration?
No. A search helps assess risk using the records and scope available at the time. Examination, later filings and third-party objections can still affect the outcome.
Is a Dubai trademark search different from a UAE search?
For national trademark protection, a business operating in Dubai needs a UAE trademark assessment. A trade-name or business-license check serves a different purpose.
What should I send to request a search?
Send the exact brand name, any logo or Arabic version, the products or services, and confirm that the United Arab Emirates is the target market. Include your planned launch date if timing matters.
