Indonesia is a first to file country and is a member of WIPO since 1979, however, the Madrid Protocol will enter into force for Indonesia on January 2, 2018. Registration Procedure & Requirements
Trademark protection is obtained by registration and Indonesia is a first-to-file country. A Trademark Application process is available online for local residents and businesses, however, if you are not from Indonesia you will need a local attorney. Moreover, if you or your company do not have a local domicile or office, you are bound by law to hire an attorney to represent you. Registrable trademarks: all distinctive names, logos, words or characters, pictures, symbols, a composition of colors or their combinations as well as three-dimensional marks, sounds and hologram marks. The official fee is 2 mln. IDR, there is no official fee for publication or issuing the certificate.

- List of goods/products;
- Class or classes in which the products/services fall into. The country uses the 11th edition of the Nice Classification;

You may clarify or limit the goods/services but you may not expand or broaden the goods/services after filing.

A trademark registration is valid for 10 years starting from the filing date and is renewable for periods of 10 years. If a trademark is not used for 3 consequent years it will become vulnerable to non-use cancellations. The entire process takes around 14-20 months.

A trademark is renewable for a period of 10 years and valid from the filing date.
- A mark can be renewed within 12 months before the expiration of the current trademark registration.

What if the deadline is missed?
